Huddersfield Packhorse Centre - Highlights - Rachael Walker

Hi Folks

It's been a few weeks since our pop up shop in Huddersfield, doesn't time fly!

We had a wonderful time and enjoyed meeting and engaging with the Huddersfield community.

Here are some of the things we got up to!

Making Sense Pop Up shop, Packhorse Centre, Huddersfield.

 1. Engaging with the Huddersfield community and sharing stories with young and old.
 2. Exploring Huddersfield and developing some new work.
 3. Running exciting workshops to engage the public.
 4. Visitors coming in and playing spontaneous piano playing.
 5. Visitors leaving little origami envelopes gifts for us.
 6. Meeting people who were spending time in the shop and being creative.
 7. Making origami birds - large and small.
 8. Visitors re-visiting us throughout the week.
 9. Learning and sharing new skills.
10. Working collaboratively and making new work.

We would love to hear from you if you have any exciting local venues for us to create an exciting space in!

Please keep in touch for news of our next project space!

Making Sense of Huddersfield...

Making Sense
Pop-up Shop
Packhorse Shopping Centre, Huddersfield

24th - 31st May 2014
10am – 4pm daily (except Sunday 25th 11 – 3pm)

Hot on the heels of our adventures in Doncaster at the DNWeekeND festival we will be in residence at the Packhorse Shopping Centre Pop-up Shop for a week during the Spring Bank Holidays.
We are making new work about living in Huddersfield; discovering hidden histories and re-imagining the future of the town.
We invite you to make, play and experience the town in a whole new way through Puppet Expeditions, Sculpting Landscapes, A Tactile Treasure Hunt and much more as the week unfolds.

This is an experiment, developing our creative practice and testing out ways of working together and making work with people, in public. So we welcome you to join in.

Come along and be a part of it!

DNweekeND

After a short trip south from Huddersfield, we literally set up shop ready for the DNweekeND. A weekend celebration of creative pursuits situated in and around Doncaster.

Our shop, in the corner of Frenchgate shopping Centre, (Unit 111) became the hub for information regarding events. We covered the walls with fabric and our Tactile Map, a interactive play area and sculpture and laid out tables to encourage passers by and their families to come in and make a puppet, enjoy the shop and chat......

As Saturday turned into Sunday, there were many bird puppets leaving the shop with their owners, ready to fly the nest and find a new home. Tempted by treasure, visitors were encouraged to find interested textures around Doncaster, whether it be from Street Art, grates, walls and more encouraging locals to look around their town and notice more than just shops, adding to our huge map, creating a public mural, a new way of seeing and creating a piece of interactive art.

Children recreated Doncaster town centre with our building blocks, foam and fabrics, with one child even creating a mythical place entitled "Mountain Side City".

The aluminium sculpture changed in form throughout the weekend revealing a secret word, twisting and bending its shape with each individual hand.

A wonderfully enjoyable time was had....now onto the next!

24th to 30th May - Packhorse Centre, Huddersfield.

See you there!
